WEA - ENVIRONMENTAL STUDY WALKS
PROGRAMME SPRING 2003

Please note that the programme cannot run with less than eight signed up members.
Unless prior notice is given all walks are on Thursday morning. They start (normally)

at 10 a.m. prompt and finish about 1 to 2 p.m. with a 'snack' break about 11.30.
Each walk will be about 4 to 6 miles in length. You need to have suitable clothing and footwear and something to keep you dry.
The use of appropriate 1:25000 Ordnance Survey maps. a compass and notebook,

to record what you have seen and learned are an essential part of each walk.
(Useful maps are O.S. Outdoor Leisure I (Dark Peak), 24 (White Peak), Peak District 1" to one-mile Tourist map and O.S. Explorer 278 - Sheffield and Barnsley.) All members are encouraged to plan and lead some walks; suggest other interesting walks, contribute to discussions and to comment on things they find interesting. . Notice of any changes will be given to all group members.
Guest Walkers - I must receive and agree any requests at least one week in advance.

The starting points for all these walks have been kept fairly close to Sheffield because the days are short and the weather is unpredictable. They focus on the lands around the river Derwent and its tributaries.
Apart from Irene's walk (no.6) the February walks could be changed for others further west toward Castleton or Monyash - notice of any changes will be given.
